Furnace #4 is different from our car-bottom units - the furnace chamber moves and the hearth and door remain stationary.

This design gives furnace #4 a very large load capacity - 440 tons - making it ideal for treating and air-quenching smaller, heavier items like foundry castings.

Furnace #4 operates at a maximum temperature of 1800 F. The video clip on the right shows the unique manner in which furnace #4 is loaded and unloaded - by moving the furnace itself while the hearth and door remain in place.
